The first of many

6 10 2008

At first I was a bit skeptical to blog. However, technology is something I want to continuously embrace. Change is constantly happening in our world and some things will be embraced and some things will die off. That is the way it goes some times. I hope this blog is something others can relate to, find some insight in, and just be able to enjoy the words and topics I will bring to the table and talk about throughout my blogging experience.

Anyway, I bet some of you are wondering why did I named my blog mysteryofthecosmos? Well, there are three reasons behind that:

1) Cosmos is an amazing album by The Send (which is ex-Falling Up guitarist Joseph A. Kisselburgh).

2) The Milky Way is an amazing cosmos that we as humans are a small part of because we were put on the planet Earth inside the Milky Way.

3) The cosmos continues to remain a mystery much of the time because that is the way God works. He wants us to get to know Him and form a relationship with Him, but He does not want us to know everything so some things will remain a mystery.

This summer was a very rough transition for me because it was all about trusting God with my future. I desperately wanted a job, place to live, independence, and a new direction in life. However, I did not think it would take until the middle of August for those things I wanted to be in my life. I was not trusting God for my future because I thought my plan was the “best” and it needed to happen right away. My patience was severly tested and my frustration mounted with the passing of every day. God was very good to me, but in constant I was not good to Him. I learned so much this summer and I know my plans will not work always if there are just all about me. I need to trust His plans and give it up to Him.

Now in the fall 2008 I have experienced a few sweet things and some insight for all:

1) The Des Moines area is a pretty sweet place to live. Yeah some places are expensive and extravagant in some ways, but it does not have a “super big” city feel. Iowa is a great state to live in and the Des Moines area gives many great opportunities to enjoy life and some of the amenities it has to offer.

2) The youth ministers I hang out with are amazing! They have so much helpful insight, advice, positive encouragement, and are just great people to be around. They are also great to share laughs with and talk through difficult situations. Do check out Jake Bouma’s and Erik Ullestad’s blogs because they are chalked full of insight, challenging thoughts, and different perspectives on many topics.

3) Apple > PC times 1,000. I just bought a MacBook in August and I have been using it all the time. It is so easy to use, all of the programs are awesome, and Apple is the true leader in technology and functionality for anyone to use. The next step is for me to buy the iPhone 3G because of the functionality of the phone and the many uses and tools at my fingertips.

4) The three best albums I have listened to in 2008 are:

1. Lost In The Sound Of Separation- Underoath

2. New Surrender- Anberlin

3. Dance Or Die- Family Force 5

Check these albums out for yourselves!

5) I am happy with where I am at right now. I have been placed in a great job, great staff to work with, awesome youth, great friends, and so many other things I could not dream of. However, that does not mean everything is going to be great always. There are ups and downs in life and we as humans have to figure out where are priorities, energy, time, and life should be at. Not everything is the same for everybody, but do not forget you always have a friend in God, His Son Jesus Christ to look to as a role model, and the Holy Spirit to guide us in times of suffering, pain, and distrought.

Feel free to leave comments, insight, and input for me. I am always looking for new ideas, creative thoughts, and topics/subjects to challenge the way I look or think about life, culture and God.
